MMA President Inducted into MSAE Hall of Fame, MMA Scores Top Association Prize for Awards Event

MMA celebrated individual and Association honors, including our fifth Diamond Award over the last five years, at the 17th annual Michigan Society of Association Executives (MSAE) Diamond Awards in September.

MSAE Hall of Fame Inductee: Chuck Hadden, MMA President & CEO

MMA President & CEO Chuck Hadden was inducted into the MSAE Hall of Fame in recognition for his leadership, guidance, compassion and dedication to the MMA and its membership for more than 25 years including a decade at the helm.

“To be recognized this way by people I greatly respect is an incredible honor,” said Hadden. “I’ve been lucky enough to have my dream job — running the MMA — since 2008 and I’m so proud of the many achievements we’ve made to keep Michigan manufacturers competitive and turn Michigan into a place where you want to do business. To everyone who has helped me along this journey, and to those still helping me, I’m so very thankful.”

Diamond Award (Meetings & Expositions):2017 MFG Excellence Awards

MMA also earned a coveted MSAE Diamond Award in the Meetings & Expositions category for the 2017 MFG Excellence Awards. This first-of-its-kind event celebrated the inspirational stories of Michigan’s most vital sector and recognized individuals and companies in categories including Lifetime Achievement, Emerging Leader, Community Impact, Innovation Excellence, Talent Champion and the 37th annual John G. Thodis Michigan Manufacturer of the Year.

Additional Honors

Gold Award (Meetings & Expositions): 2017 MMA Legislative Day
MMA Legislative Day, a power-packed day of networking and information-sharing, received a Gold Award for its role as a power-packed day featuring two unique events ensuring members leave Lansing with new strategies, stronger advocacy skills, better connections and a greater sense of the direction of manufacturing in Michigan.

Gold Award (Innovative Collaboration): MMA/SME PRIME® Program in Fraser
MMA received a Gold Award for its multi-year partnership with the SME Education Foundation’s Partnership Response In Manufacturing Education (PRIME®) initiative and a new three-year, $450,000 workforce partnership between Fraser High School in Fraser and six local Macomb County manufacturers including General Motors. This latest PRIME® program creates an employer-driven curriculum designed to bring local solutions to manufacturing’s statewide talent challenge.

Silver Award (Government Relations) — MMA’s elimination of the Michigan HICA tax
MMA’s longstanding effort to eliminate the Health Insurance Claims Act (HICA) tax came to fruition in 2018 and earned the Association a Silver Award. This multi-layered process lasted over seven years and involved constant negotiation, the development of coalitions throughout the business community and multiple attempts at legislative fixes. During this time, MMA faced both great progress and challenges before finally fulfilling the promise made to members and securing an estimated annual net tax savings of $272.5 million.

The 2018 MSAE Diamond Awards continues a five-year run of strong recognition for MMA’s efforts on behalf of manufacturers. In total, MMA has won five Diamond Awards in the last five years and the overall Best in Show honor in 2014, in addition to fifteen additional program honors.

“The work we do at MMA is always driven by the needs of our members,” says Hadden. “Whether it is an event, a legislative initiative, a marketing campaign or new strategic service, it’s all done to help ensure manufacturers in Michigan can compete here and around the world. Recognition like this only inspires us to get up tomorrow and go further.”
