MIOSHA Rescinds COVID-19 Emergency Workplace Rules

On Tuesday, 6/22/21, the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) officially rescinded the existing COVID-19 Emergency Workplace Rules. The rules were replaced with a new standard for health care employers that is in alignment with the federal OSHA Emergency standard for health care settings.

Because the COVID-19 rules were rescinded, decisions regarding the following issues are now left up to each individual non-health care employer:

  • Daily health screening
  • Face covering requirements
  • Social distancing requirements
  • Record keeping requirements
  • Requirements for a COVID-19 response and preparedness plan

Employers are urged to review the latest CDC guidelines for best practices to mitigate COVID-19 hazards, all of which can be found on the CDC website:

MMA’s Government Affairs team is available to assist manufacturers with questions about COVID-19 orders and workplace safety rules. Contact MMA’s Dave Worthams at 517-487-8511 or worthams@mimfg.org. If you are interested in receiving consultation from MIOSHA about the impact of these rules, please contact the MIOSHA online or call 517-384-7720.
