Statement of MMA Executive Vice President Mike Johnston on Executive Directive 2023-04

LANSING (Aug. 4, 2023) — The Michigan Manufacturers Association (MMA) today released the following statement in response to Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s issuance of Executive Directive 2023-04 to make state permitting processes more predictable, transparent and efficient.

Statement of MMA Executive Vice President Mike Johnston on Executive Directive 2023-04

Certainty and predictability are critical factors in business investment decisions, and we look forward to working together with the Whitmer Administration to improve Michigan’s regulatory systems. As companies plan investments in new or expanded operation, whether it’s $5 million for a small manufacturer or billions for a large manufacturer, it is essential to have confidence that permit decisions will be made in a predictable timeframe, and with a level of certainty about the requirements. Investment dollars sit idle while permits are pending and time delays can be very expensive. MMA has been a consistent voice advocating for efficient permitting to ensure Michigan’s economic competitiveness.
