Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) is a crucial, transformational element in the workplace as well as within our society.

As the Association representing the largest industry in Michigan, it is incumbent upon us all to address the importance of equal treatment of all people. There is no room for hatred, racism, or intolerance in the manufacturing industry. We are committed to standing by our members and the communities where they operate to advance solutions that will embrace all people and build a brighter and better tomorrow.

The long-term competitiveness and success of Michigan’s manufacturing industry is contingent upon a strong and diverse talent pool. In turn, the ability to attract, engage and retain a strong workforce requires inclusive workplaces and continuous improvement.

As noted in the Manufacturing Institute’s Diversity + Inclusion Benchmarking in Manufacturing report, manufacturers “acknowledge the value of a diverse and inclusive workforce and are working to close the gap between intent and execution of practices that would support such a workforce in the long term.”

As a first step, MMA is partnering with the Center for Automotive Diversity, Inclusion & Advancement (CADIA) to offer workshops for industry members working to integrate DEI strategies that will support their business goals. These quarterly interactive virtual sessions are free to MMA members and will help identify tactics and resources needed to launch meaningful initiatives or support existing efforts.

Thursday, February 17, 2022 • 8:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.

Many people think they know what DEI is but may not be able to define what it means at an individual level or corporate level. Getting the basics gives everyone a common understanding and a point from which they can begin to explore ways to drive change both as an individual and within a corporate environment.

In this workshop, individuals and leadership teams will define why Diversity Equity & Inclusion are important to them personally and to the organization. They will explore the priorities and measures required to set themselves and the organization up for true transformation and sustainable success.

Join us in this workshop to:

  • Learn the history, evolution and business case for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
  • Create a personal definition of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
  • Gain an understanding of the barriers in bringing one’s whole self to work
  • Move toward playing an advocacy role in DEI
