MMA Joins Forces with The Nature Conservancy in Michigan to Drive Sustainability
LANSING (Feb. 11, 2022) —The Michigan Manufacturers Association (MMA) and The Nature Conservancy in Michigan have joined forces to present a four-part series of webinars featuring sustainability experts and industry representatives leading the way toward making their enterprises cleaner and greener.
The innovative partnership is helping to drive sustainability across Michigan’s manufacturing sector by highlighting strategies to improve energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions and adopt renewable energy technologies.
The first two webinars in the series provided attendees with a high-level overview of sustainability trends in the manufacturing sector as well as insights on state and federal initiatives and policy changes designed to accelerate the adoption of energy efficiency and carbon reduction strategies in this key sector.
Next week’s hour-long webinar, scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 15, will feature Kristen Siemen, vice president of sustainable workplaces and chief sustainability officer at General Motors Co.; Capital Steel & Wire President Kelly Preston, who will discuss her company’s installation of a new solar array at its production facility in Mason, Mich.; and Steven Holty, sustainability leader at Hemlock Semiconductor Operations in Hemlock, Mich.
“Sustainability is fast becoming a priority for Michigan manufacturers of all sizes,” said Caroline Liethen, MMA’s director of environmental and regulatory policy. “Our partnership with The Nature Conservancy is providing manufacturers with practical insights into voluntary actions they can take to lower their industrial emissions while staying competitive and attracting and retaining talented workers.”
Madhu Anderson, director of government relations for The Nature Conservancy in Michigan, said the webinars, jointly presented by both organizations, are an effective way to provide information to manufacturers of every size and in every corner of the state.
“We’re proud to partner with the Michigan Manufacturers Association in engaging manufacturers across the state in sharing their sustainability success stories and efforts to address a changing climate,” Anderson said. “There are tremendous opportunities across the sustainability landscape for manufacturers who are interested in saving money, attracting talent, growing their business and helping their community.”
The Manufacturing Sustainability webinar series is open to MMA members and non-members at no cost. The two previous webinars were recorded and are available on MMA’s Online Learning website. Registration for the upcoming webinars in the Sustainable Manufacturing series can be found here.
