Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

Quarterly DEI Workshops

Register for the second of four quarterly workshops with CADIA, Unconscious Bias Workshop: Rev up Your Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Initiative, on Wednesday, May 18, 2022. Log in to watch the first workshop offered by MMA and CADIA, Foundation Elements of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) is a crucial, transformational element in the workplace as well as within our society.

As the Association representing the largest industry in Michigan, it is incumbent upon us all to address the importance of equal treatment of all people. There is no room for hatred, racism, or intolerance in the manufacturing industry. We are committed to standing by our members and the communities where they operate to advance solutions that will embrace all people and build a brighter and better tomorrow.

The long-term competitiveness and success of Michigan’s manufacturing industry is contingent upon a strong and diverse talent pool. In turn, the ability to attract, engage and retain a strong workforce requires inclusive workplaces and continuous improvement.

As noted in the Manufacturing Institute’s Diversity + Inclusion Benchmarking in Manufacturing report, manufacturers “acknowledge the value of a diverse and inclusive workforce and are working to close the gap between intent and execution of practices that would support such a workforce in the long term.”

MMA is committed to standing by our industry and the communities where we operate to advance solutions that will build a brighter and better tomorrow — for our people and for our industry. These resources have been curated in partnership with trusted and respected advisors with the intent of supporting the growth, education and competitiveness of Michigan’s manufacturing sector.

Workshop 2:
Unconscious Bias Workshop
Rev Up Your Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Initiative

Wednesday, May 18, 2022 • 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Our brains receive 11 million pieces of information every second…and we can only process 40 of those details consciously. This makes our responses to everyday interactions and situations 90 to 95% unconscious. This how our brains have evolved to deal with our complex environment; but it means we don't realize just how unconscious – or biased we can be. By understanding that we're all biased, we can become more aware of our thoughts and actions when relating to others. We can learn to pause and put conscious thought behind our actions.

Join us in this workshop to:

  • Identify and discuss specific types of bias and begin thinking about them in new ways
  • Recognize and address bias and its impact
  • Expose ourselves to more people with identities different than our own to minimize bias
  • Move toward playing an advocacy role in influencing those with power and influence

Who it is for: Individuals and groups interested in gaining effective strategies and tactics for recognizing and minimizing unconscious bias.

We have all likely experienced how bias can impact our personal and career experience, along with team and organizational performance. Developing personal and organizational strategies and tactics for minimizing unconscious bias can help us:

  • Create more inclusive environments
  • Address current racial and gender inequities
  • Attract, retain and advance professional talent
  • Expand business development opportunities
The first workshop, Foundation Elements of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, is available on-demand to members. Login to access above.
