Manufacturers to Honor Governor Rick Snyder for Leadership in State Reinvention
Governor Snyder was selected for this award by MMA, who has proudly worked with him on countless legislative and regulatory issues since he took office in January 2011. Since then, Michigan has experienced an economic resurgence led by the manufacturing industry and the more than 608,000 Michiganians who work in it.
“Since taking office, Governor Snyder has prioritized many of manufacturing’s key competitiveness issues including restructuring Michigan’s business tax climate and bringing attention to skilled trades talent development as an essential part of the K-12 pipeline,” says Chuck Hadden, MMA president & CEO. “Through his efforts, we’ve eliminated the Personal Property Tax to save employers more than $576 million annually, added more than 120,000 new manufacturing jobs, and cut more than 2,000 unnecessary regulations. Governor Snyder has been a champion of manufacturing and we are proud to honor him.”
The MFG Excellence Awards is a first-of-its-kind gala event to promote the inspiring stories of Michigan’s manufacturing industry, the thousands of unique manufacturing companies across the state, the more than 608,000 Michigan residents employed in the industry and the hundreds of local communities that support it.
In addition to presenting Governor Snyder with the MFG Leadership Award, the MFG Excellence Awards will recognize some of the Michigan’s most renowned brands for their unwavering support of manufacturing. The John G. Thodis Michigan Manufacturer of the Year Award — the pinnacle of manufacturing awards since 1981 — and awards for lifetime achievement, emerging leader, talent champion, innovation excellence and community impact will also be presented.
