Orbitform’s Phil Sponsler to be Named Michigan’s Manufacturer of the Year

LANSING — The Michigan Manufacturers Association (MMA) is proud to announce that Phil Sponsler, president of Jackson’s Orbitform, has been selected as the 2017 recipient of the John G. Thodis Michigan Manufacturer of the Year Award. A prestigious honor since 1981, the award is named after MMA’s longest-serving president and honors the important, positive and tangible contributions individual manufacturers make to their employees, customers and communities. Mr. Sponsler will receive the award during the 2017 MFG Excellence Awards on November 9 at the Crowne Plaza West hotel in Lansing.

Mr. Sponsler was selected by an independent panel of judges for his demonstrated capability to create and sustain a Continuous Improvement Culture and his ability to have an eye on the future by donating his resources to promoting career pathways in manufacturing.

“Phil’s role in his community is more than just that of an employer — he regularly goes above and beyond to show young people and job seekers of all ages the opportunities that exist within manufacturing,” says Chuck Hadden, MMA president & CEO. “If you watch him, you’ll see he is always shining a positive light on manufacturers. Whether its volunteering, sponsoring local programs, offering facility tours, hosting local youth groups, or helping current employees get off the ground, Phil Sponsler is the leader we should all hope to become.”

The MFG Excellence Awards is a first-of-its-kind gala event to promote the inspiring stories of Michigan’s manufacturing industry, the thousands of unique manufacturing companies across the state, the more than 608,000 Michigan residents employed in the industry and the hundreds of local communities that support it.

In addition to presenting Mr. Sponsler with the John G. Thodis Michigan Manufacturer of the Year Award, the MFG Excellence Awards will also present Governor Rick Snyder with the MFG Leadership Award and recognize some of the Michigan’s most renowned brands for their unwavering support of manufacturing. Awards for lifetime achievement, emerging leader, talent champion, innovation and community impact will also be presented.
