Lobby Day 2018

Understanding and engagement in the political process is a continuum that impacts every business owner. Whether a seasoned lobbyist or someone with a basic understanding of the Legislature, you will gain tangible take-aways at the third annual MMA Lobby Day.

Join us on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 in Lansing.

Michigan’s Economy: Where Are We and Where Are We Going?
Modernizing our tax structure has been critical to the continuing success of Michigan. Michigan State Treasurer Nick Khouri has many insights to share, from his former role as senior vice president at DTE to his current position leading the state’s economy and helping to reinvent our manufacturing state. Learn how reform under the Snyder Administration directly impacts your business and how the state is positioned for the future.

Advocacy in Action
Advocacy is a long-term investment in problem solving that involves relationship building, awareness and visibility. MMA Lobby Day attendees will have the opportunity to engage with lawmakers in this small group setting to gain a first-hand opportunity to ask questions about your top issues.

Legislative Update, Crossing the Finishing Line
Tremendous progress has been made in the last six months including: an eight-year process that finally culminated in the elimination of the HICA tax, the creation of the Governor’s Marshall Plan for Talent and the expansion of the Skilled Trades Training Fund. There are still several months left under the current Administration and a lot can happen before we cross the finish line. Find out what’s on the legislative horizon that could impact your company.

Inside MFG Lobbying
Each year, hundreds of bills are drafted, introduced, debated, passed (or not), signed into law or vetoed. This panel of manufacturing lobbyists from Amway, BorgWarner, Dart Container and Lafarge will help shed light on how they approach their role in advocating for the manufacturing industry. Whether focused on state and local issues or operating on a global scale, these government affairs professionals will share their experiences to inspire your company’s efforts. Attendees will walk away with tips to effectively represent their business on crucial issues.

Ballot & Election Update
Several ballot initiatives slated for the November election could dramatically impact manufacturers — and their ability to grow, invest in local communities and compete in a global economy. Learn what issues are at the top of the list, how the election could impact your business and what you can do about it. Gain resources to educate your workforce to ensure you make a powerful impact at the polls in November.

Issues & Solutions: Moderated Lunch Discussion
In this moderated discussion, manufacturing executives, legislators and agency leaders will share their perspectives on issues and solutions impacting Michigan manufacturers. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage directly with lawmakers and have their most pressing issues addressed.

MMA Lobby Day 2017 featured Speaker of the Michigan House of Representatives Tom Leonard, Michigan Department of Talent and Economic Development Director Roger Curtis, Dow Chemical’s Brooke Beebe, a roundtable discussion of Michigan Senate power players and MMA’s own Government Affairs team in a full-day, information-packed event. See highlights from 2017 in the October issue of MiMfg Magazine and on MMA’s Facebook page.
