MMA Commends Senate Efforts to Get Michigan Back to Work

“At MMA, our top priority as our state faces the COVID-19 crisis is the health, safety and well-being of our members and their employees,” said John Walsh, MMA president & CEO. “We have worked closely with Governor Whitmer’s Administration, legislative leadership and all agencies involved with mitigation of the public health and economic impact of this pandemic and we thank them for the tireless work on behalf of all Michiganders.

“While we recognize that Michigan has not yet surpassed the apex of the infection curve,” continued Walsh, “We believe it is reasonable and wise to begin planning for a time when it will be safe to bring more workplaces back online.”

Michigan manufacturers’ response to the desperate need for personal protective equipment has been and will continue to be critical to the state’s ability to weather the crisis.

“I am very proud to say that many manufacturers across Michigan are changing processes to make the much-needed personal protection equipment to protect health care workers and first responders as they help save people’s lives in their communities, statewide and across the nation. As conditions improve, it is manufacturing productivity that will drive the economic recovery and reverse the stunning economic conditions people are facing,” Walsh explained.

Walsh went on to add, “We look forward to working with the Senate Majority Leader, Senator Ken Horn (R-Frankenmuth) and the members of the bipartisan ‘Safe Behavior for Safe Workplaces’ workgroup to identify practical recommendations for safely and systematically re-opening business activity and get Michigan’s economy and families back on track.”
