Over the past 68 years, Lincoln Park Boring has provided niche CNC machining by customizing parts that make machines that make parts. One of its differentiators is the ability to machine parts that can be as large as 120 tons, although it also provides precision machining for smaller parts, all of which are created to specifications based on blueprints provided by customers.
The business, therefore, places a strong focus on safety for their team members and customers, including holding monthly meetings to reinforce safety protocols and provide updates.
MTM and MMA offer discounted workers’ comp coverage along with numerous consulting services and resources. Members get:

- Face-to-face claims reviews

One organization that Lincoln Park Boring, a 5-year MMA member, has found very helpful in relation to their safety measures is the Manufacturing Technology Mutual Insurance Company (MTM), which partners with MMA on the MFG Works Partners program to provide members with workers’ compensation insurance and workplace safety consultations as part of the policy. Based on customers’ claims, MTM also provides MMA member customers with dividends, which typically have ranged from 19 to 30 percent, amounting to an average savings of $1,100 for members.
A third-generation, family owned company, Romulus-based Lincoln Park Boring has been with MTM for about 15 years.
“MTM is extremely good at helping to keep our shop safe, and customers recognize that,” says CFO Nancy Yesue, daughter of the founder and who currently owns the company alongside her brothers, Rick and Gary. “We’ve always been complimented on the cleanliness and safety of our facility.”
As a member and policyholder, MTM has provided Lincoln Park Boring with loss control services, yearly inspections featuring detailed reports and guidance about issues that should be remediated, like it does with all of its customers.
“They help ensure that we are complying with MIOSHA guidelines to create a safe work environment and prevent violations,” says Operations Manager Paul Scalici, Yesue’s son and representing the third-generation management of the business.
He adds that MTM also offers videos and documents pertaining to safety and training online, which has been helpful to them as they maintain a safe workplace.
Another notable resource through MTM is that in the event of injuries in the workplace, MTM handles the loss claims from beginning to end and utilizes medical professionals on site to help the employee, Yesue and Scalici say.
“You may be overwhelmed after an accident, so the nurse goes with you to appointments and explains things,” Yesue says.
In fact, after many years without any on-site injuries, an employee at Lincoln Park Boring dislocated his shoulder this summer, and MTM was there to help everyone through the process, Yesue says.
Additionally, MTM can be a resource for policyholders in terms of electronic reporting of occupational injuries to MIOSHA, as businesses that are required to do so may face penalties if they do not report the information by March 2 of every year.
MTM serves as an all-in-one workers’ compensation and injury prevention resource for MMA members like Lincoln Park Boring. MMA members who take advantage of MTM’s services can implement preventative measures to reduce workplace injuries, leading to a reduction in downtime and associated costs.
