Michigan Manufacturers Association and Michigan Chemistry Council Announce Formal Partnership

LANSING (Mar. 1, 2023) — The Michigan Manufacturers Association (MMA), the unifying champion of Michigan’s manufacturing industry since 1902, is pleased to announce a formal partnership with the Michigan Chemistry Council (MCC), working to help both organizations leverage the voice of the manufacturing industry. This affiliation will further strengthen MMA’s role as the only statewide association solely focused on the Michigan manufacturing industry.

“Our formal relationship with the MCC has evolved after years of cooperative engagement on numerous issues to the point that an affiliation made great sense for both organizations and their members,” said MMA President & CEO John J. Walsh. “With their focus and our capacity, the MCC and the MMA can continue their efforts to improve the manufacturing environment in Michigan.”

Sara Cambensy has been named the MCC Executive Director. Sara served in the Michigan House of Representatives (Marquette) through December 2022. Prior to her election to the State Legislature, she served on the Marquette City Commission, Marquette Planning Commission and as the director of adult and continuing education for Marquette Community Schools, in addition to other roles.

“Sara’s hiring is the first step in the plan established by the MCC Board of Directors to strengthen the organization, grow our influence and increase our ability to impact chemistry issues,” said Steve Persyn, President of the MCC Board of Directors and Midland Sit Leaders International Flavors and Fragrances Inc.

“I am very excited about this opportunity to bring even greater attention to the chemical manufacturing sector in Michigan,” said MCC Executive Director Sara Cambensy. “Chemical manufacturers are a critical component to almost every aspect of manufacturing, so joining forces with MMA will elevate our sector and strengthen our advocacy efforts.”

For 120 years, the MMA has been serving Michigan manufacturers and related industries by providing effective representation at Michigan’s Capitol, timely educational seminars, quality and competitive-rate insurance programs, informational e-newsletters and a monthly magazine.

For more than 55 years, the MCC has worked to shape policies and priorities that advance the industry. These two aggressive actions will position the MCC for its next 50 years and provide untold value to members who will now have access to wide-ranging advocacy efforts, workforce solutions, education, networking, cost-saving services and much more.
