Michigan Manufacturers Association Board of Directors Endorses John James for Governor

LANSING (October 5, 2026) — Following a thorough review process that included discussions with the two leading gubernatorial candidates, the Michigan Manufacturers Association (MMA) Board of Directors has voted to endorse John James as Michigan’s next governor.

The Board met with Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson and Congressman John James, both highly qualified candidates who demonstrated a strong commitment to Michigan’s future and a genuine passion for serving the people of the state. After careful consideration, the Board concluded that James presented the clearest vision for strengthening Michigan’s manufacturing economy and enhancing the state’s competitiveness on a global scale.

“Manufacturing remains the backbone of Michigan’s economy, and our members are looking for leadership that recognizes both the opportunities and challenges facing our industry,” said Patrick Curry, President of Saginaw-based Fullerton Tool and Chair of the MMA Board of Directors. “John James articulated a deep understanding of the value that manufacturers bring to our state and presented a policy platform that will strengthen our industry for the betterment of all Michiganders. The Board believes his vision aligns strongly with the priorities of Michigan manufacturers and the future prosperity of our state.”

As the leader of a successful Michigan-based logistics business, James brings firsthand experience navigating the challenges facing employers, supply chains and manufacturers in an increasingly competitive global marketplace. Michigan’s future relies on an aggressive policy agenda focused on economic growth, workforce development, innovation, regulatory certainty and global competitiveness.

The endorsement reflects MMA’s commitment to advancing its mission of Championing Manufacturers. Strengthening Michigan.

“MMA envisions a future where manufacturers thrive in the nation’s most connected, competitive and future-ready environment,” said John J. Walsh, MMA President & CEO. “Our Board believes John James demonstrated a clear understanding of what it will take to create that future for Michigan. His commitment to fostering economic growth, supporting innovation and positioning Michigan as a leader in advanced manufacturing resonated strongly with our membership.”

MMA appreciates the willingness of both gubernatorial candidates to engage in substantive discussions about the future of Michigan manufacturing and the policies necessary to grow jobs, attract investment and strengthen communities across the state.

Manufacturing supports more than a half million Michigan jobs and remains the state’s largest economic driver. MMA will continue working with policymakers at every level to ensure Michigan remains a premier destination for manufacturing investment, innovation, and talent.
