MMA Testifies in Support of Flexible Talent Development Options

MMA testified before the Senate Education Subcommittee on Michigan Merit Curriculum last week to advocate on behalf of legislative efforts to boost manufacturing career awareness and interest.

“To address this talent gap and to provide our next generation with opportunities to prosper right here in Michigan, we believe the Legislature should expand and strengthen Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs and ensure awareness of the diverse career opportunities that are available to students right here in Michigan,” testified Delaney McKinley, MMA senior director of government affairs and membership.

MMA testified in support of:

  • Additional flexibility in the Michigan Merit Curriculum
  • Improved collaboration between parents, students, teachers and employers
  • Removing barriers to boost CTE instructor recruitment
  • Enhancing student opportunities for career exploration
  • Professional development flexibility for teachers who learn about available private sector practices in their local community

“These important and common-sense legislative changes, along with significant investments included in Governor Snyder’s Marshall Plan for Talent, will give Michigan and its students a competitive advantage going into the future,” said McKinley.

MMA was joined by representatives of the Home Builders Association of Michigan, the Michigan Chemistry Council and the Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce. For more information on MMA’s efforts to boost flexible skilled trades career options and other talent-related issues, contact Delaney McKinley.
